DIARRHEA, IMPORTANCE OF ZINC
IN A SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
Diarrhea is the passage of three or more loose stools per day
or more frequent passage than is normal for the individual.
It can be infective and non-infective.
·
Infection by bacteria.
·
Infections by other organisms and pre-formed toxins.
·
Allergies and
intolerances to certain foods (Celiac disease or lactose intolerance).
KEY MEASURES TO PREVENT DIARRHOEA INCLUDE:
·
Access to safe
drinking water
·
Use of improved sanitation
·
Hand washing with soap
·
Good personal and food hygiene
·
Health education about how infections spread
IMPORTANCE OF ZINC IN DIARRHEA DISEASES
·
Zinc is nutrient
that play many vital roles in the body
·
Zinc is considered an essential nutrient,
meaning that the body cannot produce or store it, for this reason, you must get
a constant supply through your diet and supplement
·
Zinc is also needed for your senses of taste and
smell because one of the enzymes crucial for proper taste and smell is
dependent on this nutrient
·
Zinc is the second most abundant trace mineral
in the body after iron and is present in every cell
OTHER IMPORTANCE OF ZINC
· Zinc is necessary for the activity of over 300
enzymes that aid in metabolism, digestion nerve function, and many other processes.
In addition, it is critical for the development and function of immune cells
·
It is fundamental to skin health
·
Zinc is also needed for your senses of taste and
smell because one of the enzymes crucial for proper taste and smell is
dependent on this nutrient
·
Accelerates wound healing: zinc is commonly used
in hospitals as a treatment for burns, certain ulcers, and other skin injuries

MMR VACCINE
WHAT ARE MEASCLES, MUMPs AND RUBELLA?
·
Measles, mumps, and rubella are viral diseases.
All can be very serious
·
MEASLES:
starts as fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis, and a red pinpoint rash
that starts on the face and spread to the rest of the body
COMPLICATION
·
Pneumonia: if the virus infects the lungs
·
Encephalitis: more in older children can lead to
inflammation of the brain which can cause seizures and brain damage.

INTRODUCTION
MUMPS: the mumps virus usually cause swelling
in glands just below the ears, giving the appearance of chipmunk checks. Before
the vaccine, Mumps was the most common cause of both meningitis (inflammation
of the lining of the brain and spinal cord) and acquired deafness. In men, mump
can infect the testicles which can lead to infertility.
RUBELLA: also known as German measles, it can cause a mild rash on the face, swelling of glands behind the ears, and in some cases swelling of the small joints and low-grade fever. In pregnancy, it can be devastating to the fetus if they are
infected during the first trimester of pregnancy, there`s at least a 20% chance
their child we have a birth defect such as blindness, deafness, a heart defect or
intellectual disabilities.
VACCINE
*Vaccine is a biological preparation that
provides active acquired immunity to a particular infectious disease. A vaccine
typically contain an agent that resembles a disease causing micro-organism and
is often made from weakened or killed forms of the microbe ,or its toxins .the
administrative of vaccine is called vaccination.

WHO SHOULD GET MMR VACCINE?
·
Children: CDC
recommends all children get two
doses of MMR vaccine starting with the first dose at 12 through 15 months
of age and the second dose at 4 through 6 years of age. Children can receive
the second dose earlier as long as it lasts 28 days after the first dose
·
Student post-high school education institution Students
at post-high school educational
institutions who do not have presumptive evidence of immunity need two doses of
MMR vaccine, separated by at least 28 days
·
Adults Adult
who does not have presumptive evidence
of immunity should get at least one dose of MMR vaccine.
·
Certain adults may need 2 doses:
Adults who are going to be in a
setting that poses a high risk for measles or mumps transmission should make
sure they have had two doses separated by at least one.
